Iecava manor
During the times of the Duchy of Courland, the current center of Iecava city came under the ownership of Gotthard Kettler. One of the duke's hunting castles was built here, but in surroundings of Iecava, during the duke's reign, an economic development was increasing while copper, lime and tar kilns, linen and cotton looms as well as paper mills were actively working. After the Northern War, the Iecava manor lost its importance, the buildings were left behind - in 1773, the lieutenant of the Russian army Peter Ludwig von der Pahlen, became the owner of the manor, and he also managed to restore the manor complex in 1907 and 1908. Under his supervision, a new manor house, a beer and liquor factory, the English-style manor landscape park was built in and established. Unfortunately, the castle has not been preserved until now, because it was burned down in 1915 by Russian army.
What can we see nowadays from the manor complex - the building of the palace’s library (built in 1908), 18th century barn (originally built as a brewery) with a weathervane on the roof, horse stables built at the end of the 19th century (currently – guest house "Dārta"), three park gatekeepers' houses near the entrance roads (in Iecava park, Upe street and Rīga street), laundry house and a bridge over the river Ģedule.
Iecava park
One of the most important values of the city is the Iecava manor park. The park is an architectural monument of national importance, it was built at the same time with the construction of the manor complex between 1795 and 1800, in the style of a naturalistic English landscape park. Interesting is fact that during the manor times, the entrance to the park was denied to the local inhabitants. Only after Latvia gained an independence, the park became publicly available. The total area of the park is 16.6 ha, it is characterized by a large variety of leaf-type trees, several species of exotic trees can also be seen. The age of these trees are more than 130 years - many of them are marked with the status of Great trees.
In 1936, a monument created by the sculptor P. Banders to those who fell in the Latvian War of Independence was established in the park, and there is also an open-air stage in the park, where various events take place.
