Description
In the village of Svitene, some buildings from the manor complex have been preserved, including the manor house, the chapel and the park. The manor house was originally built in the 16th century as a fortress. A two-story residential building in the Mannerist style was completely uncharacteristic for that time. The current appearance of the manor house was acquired in the 19th century, thanks to Duke Philip Elmpt, who started rebuilding the manor house after his father's death. The old building was not demolished, but built into the walls of the present manor house.
This is one of the most beautiful classicist style buildings in Zemgale, the interior of which has partially preserved the luxurious decorative ornaments. The most luxurious room of the manor house is the south-eastern end salon, where all the decor has been preserved, including the ceiling and wall designs, the ornaments of the window openings, as well as the originally laid parquet.
Next to the manor house, on both sides of the Svitene river, a 10.2-hectare manor park stretches out. The oldest trees in the park could reach the age of 200 years, although there are also many 80-150-year-old plantations. The row of beech trees along the river southeast of the manor house looks very picturesque and still impressive. On the edge of the park is a neo-Gothic chapel of the the owners of the manor, von Elmpt family.
