Description

In Zemgale, local resources - clay and dolomite - have been used in this region for centuries. Already in the time of Duke Jacob, building materials were prepared here. Lielupe was of great importance as a waterway in the second half of the 19th century and in the beginning of the 20th century, an industrial complex was established in the village of Ceplis - a lime kiln, a brick kiln, a tile factory, a kiln pot factory, a glazing workshop, etc.
Until the nationalization in 1940, the factory was owned and managed by Duke Anatols Līvens. During the Soviet era, the factory complex continued its operation until the 1990s and was then abandoned, leaving behind an industrially degraded environment. Some of the 19th century buildings have been preserved. Currently, LTD "Igo music management" is working on the development project of these buildings and creating the art and music center “Ceplis”.
At the moment, the historical Lime Kiln buildin, the unique industrial building with a massive chimney in the center can be viewed on two floors, and the chimney can also be viewed from the inside. On the second floor there is an exhibition room where historical bricks can be seen. But in the windows of the former dormitory in "Ceplis 10" building, 12 works by “Zibens plein air” artists can be viewed.
The lime kiln is located 50 meters from the coast of Lielupe, and water tourists also show great interest in it. In 2021, a monument to Anatols Līvens was unveiled. Here visitors are also welcome to express themselves creatively - it is possible to decorate dishes according to Igo's design using the deco technique (dishes can be obtained after 1-2 weeks)
