31. October, 2026
The Vilis Plūdonis Museum invites you to All Souls’ Eve in Lejenieki on 31 October 2026 at 5.00 pm.
On All Souls’ Eve, we will honour the memory of our ancestors through folk songs together with the folklore groups ‘Vecsaule’ and ‘Laukam pāri’, and listen to stories of the All Souls’ season told by storytellers Aelita Ramane and Andra Poota.
According to ancient beliefs, during All Souls’ season – which lasts from Michaelmas (29 September) to St Martin’s Day (10 November) – the spirits of our ancestors come to earth to visit their loved ones. In days gone by, this period was observed in quiet reflection, as people remembered the departed and recounted legends and fairy tales. For the All Souls’ feast, a table was laid with home-cooked dishes, symbolically inviting the souls of ancestors to partake. On All Souls’ Eve, the table was set with porridge, meat, flatbreads, pies and honey cake. The presence of the ancestors’ spirits on this evening bestows blessings upon their loved ones and strengthens the family’s bond.
We invite you to bring a symbolic offering for the feast of the dead and to share the table with us.
Admission fee: €5 for adults, €2.50 for schoolchildren and students.
