SONGS OF ANGELS IN BRUKNA
Open-air Sacred Music Concert Performance
21 August | 9:30–10:50 PM
A magical evening in Brukna – beneath the star-filled August sky and surrounded by Songs of Angels. Music, light and nature merge into a single artistic experience.
"Songs of Angels" is the third open-air sacred music performance in the concert series Time. You. Prayer. Audiences are invited to return to Brukna's unique "Cathedral of Nature", renowned for its atmosphere and extraordinary natural acoustics.
The new programme explores the unseen yet ever-present world of angels. It brings together music born from humanity's encounter with heaven – cherubic and seraphic chants, prayers and sacred songs from different centuries and Christian traditions.
Performed by singer and conductor Aleksandra Špicberga together with the Male Vocal Group created especially for the concert series Time. You. Prayer., the programme features sacred chants in Spanish, Armenian, Greek, Arabic, Georgian, Church Slavonic and Latvian.
The chants are interwoven with instrumental sound paintings created by outstanding contemporary musicians Miķelis Dobičins and Rihards Plešanovs, combining cello, keyboards and electronics. Their programme includes works by the American composer Christopher Cerrone and Latvian composers Platons Buravickis and Vineta Līce.
The unique lighting and sound concept is created by lighting designer Ivars Vācers and sound designer Andris Ūze, transforming Brukna into an open-air cathedral where sound, light and the surrounding landscape become one.
