22. March, 2024 till 21. April, 2024
From 22nd of March, 2024 to 21st of April, 2024, the Bauska Museum will host an exhibition of works by Israeli artists "07/10" and the film "Boy" by the director Yahav Viner, who died in the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, which shows the daily reality in the border villages of Israel .
“Something terrible is about to happen,” reads the caption beneath the colorful illustration, almost as innocent as a child's drawing, and only this text suggests the worst.
On October 7, 2023, thousands of armed terrorists invaded Israel, attacked families in their homes - murdered, tortured, raped, burned - destroyed entire communities. More than 1,200 people were killed on this “Black Saturday”. 240 Israelis, including babies, elderly, women and men, were kidnapped and forcibly taken to Gaza by Hamas terrorists and their supporters.
This murderous strike inspired hundreds of illustrators and artists to spontaneously express their pain, horror and anger in artistic form. In addition to the impression that these works create, they also reveal the feelings of the artists themselves - the horror and fear they felt.
Illustration has tremendous power in conveying a message. In the current reality we are inundated with news and many words are needed to explain and depict the horror, its complex nature and the fear associated with it. An illustration can reveal this complex message, including emotions, without the need for overly complex arguments and semantics. Depicting the atrocities that took place with fine and minimalist lines and sophisticated metaphors, designers and illustrators dissect the murderous attack on Israel in the language of art that has shocked, traumatized and deeply affected millions of Israelis, Jews and people around the world.
The works of 17 artists can be seen in the exhibition.
