17. June, 2023
On Saturday, 17 June at 19:00 in the Bauska Castle Tower, the concert "Intima la Musica" will feature music by the 16th century Italian composer Magdalena Casulana (Maddalena Casulana 1544 - 1590) performed by Dārta Paldiņa and Estonian musician Kristo Käo.
The concert programme includes madrigals by the 16th-century Italian composer Magdalena Casulana, whose texts tell of the pleasures and poetic open feelings between a man and a woman. The voice of Darta Paldina and the harmonies of Christo Keo's lute strings will create an intimate mood in the acoustics of the tower.
The personality of the composer Magdalena is special. She received her musical education in Florence. Magdalena Casulana was known to the Medici family and was also recognised among the greatest Italian composers and poets of the time. She was a professional composer, lutenist, singer and is known as the first woman composer in Western culture whose musical compositions were printed and published in a book.
Dārta Paldiņa is a singer who is most interested in early music repertoire - especially renaissance lute songs. She has created several programmes of Renaissance and medieval music, which have been performed at Bauska Castle over the years. The timbre of Darta's voice perfectly matches the delicate sound of the lute, creating a rare opportunity in Latvia for such a duet harmony in a performance of 16th-century music.
Kristo Käo is an Estonian guitarist, lutenist, theorist, teacher and researcher. He regularly participates in early music projects throughout Europe. He is a member of the Estonian baroque music ensemble Ensemble Floridante, with whom he recorded the album "Amarilli mia bella. Pop of early modern" (2019). He has also released a solo album "The Dance Album" (2008), which is regularly played on classical music stations across Europe.
Concert participants Dārta Paldiņa - voice, Kristo Käo - Renaissance lute.
Programme: Maddalena Casulana (1544 - 1590), Second Book of the Madrigals (1570).
