The new art object "Cats in Bauska" has been presented
On 12th of September, 2025, a collection of environmental objects entitled "Cats in Bauska" and a walking route called "Cats walk where they please!" created by artist Laura Matilde Ikerte were unveiled. The author of the project came up with the idea by combining the desire to popularize the small streets of Bauska and to renovate the buildings in the old town.
As part of the project "Pastaiga" (Walk) by the association "Četras stihijas" (Four Elements), the buildings of the old town of Bauska were supplemented with artistic mosaic images — mainly cats. Visitors to the route are invited to explore the small streets of Bauska, which usually remain outside the usual tourist routes, bringing them to life in the tourism circuit. In addition to the mosaic cats, visitors can also get to know local entrepreneurs and people who live and work in Bauska.
The creation of the mosaics began with drawings of cats, mainly by children. In open masterclasses, participants created mosaics on jute fabric based on the drawings and then attached them to the walls of buildings. In this process, an important emphasis was placed on the use of appropriate and natural materials. By attaching the mosaics to the buildings, the walls themselves were also visually improved.

Meet small businesses in Bauska
During your walk, you can also get to know local businesses located along the "Cats in Bauska" route. At the beginning of the route, at the intersection of Baznīcas and Rūpniecības streets, you will find the Harvest House restaurant. On Rūpniecības Street, you can visit the Bauska Cultural Center, but to get to Kalna Street, turn onto Strautnieku Street and walk past the flower shop "Rozīte." On Kalna Street, you will find the sports club "Mogo" and the sushi bar "RiceHill." At the end of the walk is the Kvēle shopping center and the Spulga store, which sells goods made in Latvia.
